Find answers to common questions about Buyer Protection, payments, compatibility checks, and transaction resolutions.

shieldBuyer Protection & Reporting Issues

At The Parts Shop, we want you to buy and sell classic parts with complete peace of mind. Every eligible transaction on our platform is backed by our Buyer Protection System so you can restore, modify, and build with total confidence.

shieldHow Buyer Protection Works

  1. Safe Payment Hold: When you purchase a part, your money isn't sent to the seller immediately. Instead, it is held safely under Buyer Protection by The Parts Shop.
  2. Inspect Your Part: Once your package arrives, take your time to open it up, inspect the condition, check measurements, and verify fitment against your chassis or build.
  3. Payout Release: Once you confirm that everything is spot on, payment is released directly to the seller.

💬 What Happens If There’s an Issue?

If a part arrives damaged, doesn't match the listing description, or has unexpected fitment issues, don't worry—we’re here to help.

You can click Report an Issue directly from your Buying Dashboard. Doing this immediately pauses the payment hold and opens a Direct Resolution Chat with the seller.

⏱️ Response Windows & Timelines

To keep resolutions moving swiftly and fairly for both sides, our process follows simple, predictable response windows:

  • Seller’s Initial Reply (24 Hours): Once an issue is reported, the seller has 24 hours to respond with an explanation, extra photos, or a settlement offer (such as a full return or partial refund).
  • Follow-Up Replies (48 Hours): After the initial reply, both buyer and seller have up to 48 hours per turn to reply, accept an offer, or make a counter-proposal.
  • Friendly Reminders: We’ll send an email notification 3 hours before any response window closes so neither party misses a deadline.

🤝 Capped Negotiation & Platform Assistance

We keep direct resolution structured so you aren't stuck in endless back-and-forth messages:

  • 4-Turn Capped Chat: Direct negotiation is limited to 4 total message turns between buyer and seller.
  • Platform Assistance: If an agreement isn't reached within 4 turns—or if either party misses a response deadline—The Parts Shop Team automatically steps in.
  • Fair Rulings: Our team will review the listing details, photos, and chat history to issue a prompt, fair, and final decision.
