Why We’re Building The Parts Shop: Cross-Matching Tech, Garage Clearouts, and Keeping Car Clubs Alive

Why We’re Building The Parts Shop: Cross-Matching Tech, Garage Clearouts, and Keeping Car Clubs Alive

Look under the workbench in almost any enthusiast's garage and you’ll find boxes of components: an extra starter motor from a previous car, a pair of headlights bought in error, or a rare trim piece saved from a donor vehicle.

At the exact same time, another enthusiast somewhere across the UK is stuck searching forums, calling salvage yards, and hitting dead ends trying to find that exact part to finish their project.

We’re all in the same boat. We know the sinking feeling of being unable to track down an obsolete bracket, and we know the satisfaction of having that spare bolt or sender unit that gets someone else running again.

"The Parts Shop exists to connect those dots — uniting garage spares, smart cross-brand technology, and grassroots community support."

1. Helping Sellers Clear Out and Earn Extra Money

Most people have hundreds of pounds worth of usable components sitting on garage shelves gathering dust. They don't list them on mainstream auction sites because the process is tedious, and giving away 12% to 15% in platform commissions on top of postage feels unreasonable.

percent

0% Platform Seller Commission

You pay £0.00 platform fee to list and sell. You only cover standard Stripe card processing and automated bank payout (1.5% + 20p), keeping roughly 98% of your asking price.

You clear out garage space, help a fellow builder finish their car, and put real money back into your own project fund.

2. Helping Buyers Find What They Actually Need

Finding the right component shouldn't mean taking a gamble on sending an unverified bank transfer to a stranger online.

Secure Escrow

Transparent Buyer Protection

Every purchase is protected by secure escrow. The seller doesn't get paid until the parcel arrives and the buyer has a 48-hour inspection window to confirm fitment and condition.

3. Solving the Cross-Brand Parts Puzzle with Smart Technology

One of the biggest hurdles in car maintenance is knowing what actually fits what.

Car manufacturers share parts constantly, but main-dealer parts desks rarely advertise this:

  • Hidden Sibling Parts: A high-pressure fuel pump or sensor listed under an expensive luxury marque often comes from the exact same production line as a mainstream hatchback part.
  • Real-World Supercar DNA: The side mirrors on an Aston Martin DB7 come directly from a Citroën CX, and the Lamborghini Diablo and early Murciélago shared components like headlights and interior switchgear with cars like the Nissan 300ZX and mainstream Ford/Audi models.
  • The Rebuilder Community: Anyone who watches DIY rebuilders like Mat Armstrong on YouTube sees this in action every week: finding that expensive components on performance cars are shared across common VW and Audi Group platforms, making repairs achievable without paying inflated dealer prices.

We built an intelligent cross-matching system that automates this discovery:

Automated Fitment Ingestion

When you list a part number, our system looks up the original fitment and cross-references sibling components across other brands and models.

Multi-Variant Mapping

If your part fits 12 other vehicle models or brands that you didn't even know about, the system maps your listing across those variants automatically.

12x Greater Reach

Instead of your part only being visible to one tiny audience, your chance of selling that item multiplies across all compatible models.

We are using modern technology to solve a very real, practical mechanical headache.

4. Supporting Our Local Car Clubs

Car clubs are the heart and soul of UK car culture.

Whether it’s a monthly weekend morning gathering on the local village green, a dedicated marque club meeting in a pub car park, or a national rally, these meets provide the space where we share knowledge, admire each other's work, and spend time talking to people who share the same passion.

Keeping these clubs running isn't free. Organisers have to pay for insurance, venue hire, club websites, and newsletters.

That is why we have built a partner network referral engine to help keep these clubs alive:

  • Dedicated Club QR Codes: Every registered club will receive a dedicated QR code and referral link.
  • Club Spares Storefront: Clubs can list surplus club spares directly.
  • Direct Treasury Kickback: When anyone uses that club’s QR code to sign up and trade on The Parts Shop, a percentage of every transaction flows straight back into the club’s treasury.

It provides sustainable, passive funding to keep our local car meets, shows, and communities alive for the next generation.

5. Design & The Upcoming Apparel Range

The Parts Shop isn't just a database; it’s a celebration of garage culture and hands-on custodianship. That’s where the design side comes in.

We are currently preparing an upcoming range of limited-edition workshop apparel—heavyweight organic cotton tees, loopback hoodies, and trucker caps inspired by vintage packaging, obsolete parts departments, hand-lettered workshop signs, and phrases every car person knows by heart (including "I Should Have Never Sold That One").

It’s our way of bringing the same attention to design and craft that we put into the platform into things you can actually wear in the garage or at a weekend meet.

The Parts Shop is built for the fixers, the custodians, and everyone who believes that good machines are meant to be kept on the road.
